Predix, GE’s operating system for the Industrial Internet, was released to the general public in February. Then in April, at Hannover Messe in Germany, we announced our first production customer using the Predix-based APM application. Now we’re hosting the first developer conference in GE’s history.

THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO ONLY THOSE ATTENDING PREDIX TRANSFORM EVENT IN LAS VEGAS.

What is APM and why should someone care?

Asset Performance Management, or APM, is a category of software and services that leverages sensors, connectivity, data and analytics to help industrial and other asset-centric companies improve the reliability and availability of industrial assets, and to minimize total cost of ownership.

The cost of unplanned outages can be extremely high – partially due to repair costs, but often driven by weeks or months of lost production as replacement parts are produced, delivered and installed.

APM uses big data techniques to give the greatest possible lead-time, often weeks or months before serious equipment issues arise; not only to allow operators time to schedule planned maintenance and order parts, but to eliminate unnecessary and costly time-based maintenance.

Thought starters to help you invent extensions for APM

  1. Merging data sources

Machines are distributed geographically in a wide area. How can we combine sensor data and geographical or weather data to get help operators interpret their real-time operational data?

  1. Better visualization

Can we make it easier for the operator to visualize unique pieces of equipment and know, at a glance, the state and health of each asset?

  1. Get Creative

Use your own knowledge of Predix and APM. Sometimes these can be the best ideas.

The hackathon is open to all conference attendees, limit 100 coders. Limit 5 per team.

Eligibility

One application may be submitted per team/submitter. Limit 5 people per team. This hackathon is open to:

Residents and organizations of the following countries/regions are not eligible: Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, China, Russia, Brazil, Quebec, and Italy.

Employees of GE, Devpost, and contractors currently employed by GE or Devpost are eligible.

Software partners and those receiving funding or assistance from GE for application development are eligible. Any application that is or was funded or compensated, partially or fully, by GE for its development is eligible for entry.

Requirements

Build and submit apps on GE’s Predix platform. App submissions :

  • Must be built on Predix, and use Predix Services AND
  • Must use the Intel Edison Board AND
  • Optionally, should use the APM application framework.

While usage of APM is not an absolute requirement, judges generally will view effective usage of APM favorably for this hackathon.

Submitted apps should address problems related to reducing equipment maintenance costs, increasing reliability, and/or Increasing the ROI for assets / equipment.

Platform: Submissions must be a web browser app (either mobile or desktop). All submissions must include an active URL where the app is deployed.

New/Existing Applications: Both new and existing apps may be submitted, as long as the submitter and app adhere to all other requirements. Please note that all apps must not rely on technology that has not yet been announced or introduced to the market.

Submit the following assets:

    • Images. Please submit at least one image/screenshot of your application.
    • A way to access your working web application for judging and testing by providing an active URL where your app is deployed.
